Job summary

NTC Language Services is seeking reliable and professional English/Tamil Educational Interpreters for part-time, as-needed employment in Western Suffolk County, New York. Interpreters will provide in-person interpretation services in schools.

This position requires travel to assignments; starting pay is $35.00 per hour. The role focuses on facilitating clear, accurate communication among students, families, educators, and school staff in educational settings.

Qualifications

• Be able to read, write, and speak proficiently in both English and Tamil.
• Interpret spoken communication accurately and completely between both languages.
• Understand written information and communicate it accurately when required.
• Demonstrate strong listening, comprehension, and communication skills.
• Be comfortable learning and using educational and special education terminology.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpretation for parent-teacher conferences.
• Attend Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings.
• Attend Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) meetings.
• Interpret student evaluations and intake meetings.
• Interpret student registration and enrollment appointments.
• Assist with school orientations and workshops.
• Support family engagement events and counseling meetings.
• Assist with disciplinary and administrative meetings.
• Handle testing and other school-based assignments.
