Job summary

University of Wisconsin–Madison is seeking an Animal Care Technician I to join the Biomedical Research Model Services, Breeding Core. This on-site role focuses on routine and specialized animal husbandry, feeding, weaning, and data/record keeping in a rodent breeding program supporting research and teaching. The position offers weekend differential, potential level advancement, and benefits.

Requires high school diploma; experience is preferred. Schedule typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Qualifications

  • Physical ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, squat and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Word

Responsibilities

  • Inventories, cleans, and maintains animal holding spaces and supplies.
  • Observes animal behavior and reports concerns to support health and well-being of animals.
  • Perform breeding and colony management.
  • Maintains organization of and updates records related to research procedures.
  • Inspects and reports equipment problems to ensure safe operation.
  • Assists with preparing food and formulas and feeds animals as scheduled.
