Job summary

UPMC Jameson in New Castle, PA is seeking a Flex Full-Time Phlebotomist to join our laboratory team. This role collects blood samples by venipuncture, heel stick and fingerstick while ensuring patient safety and courtesy.

The position supports rotating shifts with no on-call or travel, and the candidate may train new staff. The role requires a high school diploma and phlebotomy education or experience; certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program is preferred.
• Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy is preferred.
• Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interact with all laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to telephone inquiries in a timely manner.
• Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heel stick and fingerstick; instruct patients on collection procedures as needed.
• Transports specimens to the appropriate section of the laboratory following safety procedures.
• Perform related clerical duties and enter demographic information into information systems; manage test orders and charges as needed.
• Trains and orients new employees, students and residents as applicable.
• Inform staff and supervisors of unusual or problematic incidents.
• May perform arterial puncture following strict collection guidelines.
• Monitor supplies and use materials cost-effectively.
