Job summary

UPMC Hamot is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform specimen collection and data entry in a fast-paced laboratory setting. You will draw blood by venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick, ensuring accurate patient identification and proper technique.

Responsibilities include specimen transport, clerical tasks, and training or orienting new staff. A high school diploma and preferred phlebotomy certification support success in this role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Minimum 6 months phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Medical terminology knowledge and LIS experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Procures blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick and fingerstick and instructs patients on collection procedures.
• Interacts courteously with laboratory customers and responds to inquiries.
• Transports specimens to the appropriate laboratory section following safety procedures.
• Enters demographic information and test orders into LIS; handles billing and credits.
• Trains and orients new employees and students as assigned.
• Adheres to laboratory and hospital policies including hand hygiene and safety.
