Job summary

District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is seeking a hands‑on Field Network Engineer to design, deploy, and operate a secure ITS network connecting traffic signals, CCTV, and IoT devices across DC. The role spans field and data center environments, with emphasis on uptime, safety, and reliability in mission‑critical operations.

The engineer will work with Metro Ethernet underlays and Cisco DMVPN overlays, configuring VPNs, dynamic routing, VLANs, and QoS to ensure low latency transport for

Responsibilities

• Deploy and support Cisco DMVPN hub‑and‑spoke and spoke‑to‑spoke overlays across Metro Ethernet transport.
• Configure and troubleshoot IPsec VPN profiles, GRE tunnels, NHRP mappings, and tunnel interfaces for the DMVPN fabric.
• Implement dynamic routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) over DMVPN tunnels for automated failover and optimal path selection.
• Design failover and redundancy strategies, including LTE/5G backup paths, to ensure uninterrupted connectivity.
• Monitor tunnel health, latency, and throughput to maintain performance across VPN connections.
• Coordinate Metro Ethernet circuit provisioning, turn‑up, and incident resolution.
• Manage dual‑WAN redundancy models and carrier handoff configurations at each site.
• Perform field installations and cutovers of routers, switches, cabinets, and handoff equipment.
• Manage VLAN configurations and IP addressing between remote aggregation points and data centers.
• Implement network segmentation using VRFs, VLANs and firewall policies to isolate ITS traffic domains.
• Apply and tune QoS policies to prioritize latency‑sensitive traffic like signals and video.
• Troubleshoot end‑to‑end from field site to data center.
• Maintain network documentation including diagrams and inventories.
• Support traffic signal control systems, CCTV and IoT field devices with reliable transport.
• Coordinate cabinet upgrades and migrations to modern DMVPN transport.
• Monitor performance and SLA compliance across ITS links.
