Job Description

Position Title: Flex Machine Operator - Production

Supervisor: Production Supervisor

Job Summary: Set up and operate various pieces of equipment in the production area. Follow work order instructions closely to ensure a quality product is produced. Read and follow work order instructions, completing tasks based on assigned priorities. Operate production equipment following safe work procedures. The employee should be willing and capable of running multiple pieces of equipment and working where most needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Perform all assigned procedures efficiently while observing safety rules.
  • Read and understand work orders and job instructions; perform all quality control procedures.
  • Set up and operate equipment following Standard Operating Procedures; suggest improvements.
  • Operate machines in the Press Department (e.g., IS300, Stream, MICR).
  • Operate inserting department machines (e.g., FPS, MPS inserters, folders, DRS software).
  • Verify components match work order samples and instructions; ensure sufficient supplies.
  • Obtain Lead/QC signoff and output sample for first piece before processing.
  • Check materials when opening new cartons for accuracy.
  • Ensure output matches sign-off samples throughout the order process.
  • Monitor inserters for doubles, miss-feeds, proper sealing, and fold quality.
  • Monitor print quality, including barcodes, placement, and streaking.
  • Troubleshoot machines and seek assistance promptly.
  • Report issues that may delay processing and suggest solutions.
  • Ensure job totals match work order and DRS summaries before releasing.
  • Complete daily paperwork accurately.
  • Clear leftover materials after each order and before starting a new one.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Notify supervisor when tasks are completed.
  • Avoid unnecessary downtime.
  • Perform daily machine maintenance.
  • Assist other departments and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Report injuries immediately.
  • Comply with company policies (Attendance, Code of Conduct, etc.).

Minimum (Required) Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without accommodations.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Punctuality and adherence to work hours required.
  • Willingness to continue education or training if needed.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Must be able to contact supervisor in emergencies or for unscheduled absences.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Related work experience is a plus; training will be provided to selected applicants.

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to read, understand, and write in English.
  • Effective speaking skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and calculate rates and percentages.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stand, walk, reach, climb, balance, talk, hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit as needed. Frequently lift up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity required includes close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment:

Regular exposure to machinery and loud noise. The environment is climate-controlled.

Work Hours:

This is a full-time position with varying schedules, including possible shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays, depending on customer needs.
