JOB SUMMARY
To assist fleet technicians in providing safe, reliable, and cost-efficient vehicles by learning to perform quality preventive maintenance inspections and repairs, as well as diagnosis and repair to prevent breakdowns, reduce vehicle downtime, and improve fleet reliability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment (tractors, trailers, convertor dollies, lift gates, light-duty vehicles) to maximize safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the fleet's lifecycle, including FAI/CVI (First Article Inspection/Commercial Vehicle Inspection) inspections.
- Perform quality preventive maintenance and repairs on all fleet vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and reliability.
- Conduct maintenance repairs such as inspections, scheduled repairs, and road-call repairs safely and efficiently, addressing driver reports promptly, diagnosing malfunctions, and performing repairs per manufacturer specifications on systems including engines, transmissions, drive-line, differential, steering, suspension, fuel and ignition, exhaust, intake, electrical, brake, HVAC, and lift-gate systems.
- Document all work performed on Work Orders using the Complaint, Cause, and Correction format.
- Develop proficiency in all Maintenance System software used by Sysco.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medium/Heavy Duty truck technical training from a 2-year school.
- Annual Inspector Certification and Brake Inspector Certification.
- ASE Certification – Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty.
- Knowledge of computer-based diagnostic software for OEM and component manufacturers.
Experience
- 1 year of experience with a 2-year technical degree OR
- 3 years of experience in fleet maintenance and repair.
Professional Skills
- Valid driver’s license; CDL-A preferred.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle systems and components.
- Basic skills in diagnosing and repairing electrical systems.
- Basic welding and cutting skills (gas, electric, MIG, TIG).
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as standing, walking, handling tools, reaching, climbing, and other physical activities.
- Vision abilities including close and distance vision, color perception, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- The technician must assess if equipment is roadworthy and compliant with DOT regulations before release, prioritizing safety over operational costs.
- Collaborate with management to create and prioritize work schedules considering operational needs and preventive maintenance compliance.
