Job summary

City of Melbourne seeks a Fleet Technician for maintenance and repair of automotive, light, medium and heavy trucks, fire apparatus, and industrial equipment. Pays vary by level and qualifications, with DOQ for Fleet Technician Assistant I–III.

Duties include inspections, service calls, parts requests, and accurate record keeping. CDL Class A and ASE certifications are required or obtainable within probationary periods.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must have or obtain and maintain Florida CDL Class A.
  • ASE Master Level Automotive/Truck certifications preferred or obtainable within six months.
  • ASE Brake certification required within probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs, reconditions, and preventive maintenance on automotive, light/medium/heavy trucks, fire apparatus, and industrial equipment.
  • Maintain and repair varied systems: drive train, suspension, hydraulic, electrical, water pump, HVAC, cooling, and brakes.
  • Make service calls and emergency repairs in the field as required.
  • Maintain records, submit part requests, and requisition tools and equipment for efficient repair work.
  • Use computers/diagnostic tools to reference work orders, parts, and labor entries.
  • Maintain regular hours and respond to emergencies when needed.
