Job summary

The SYGMA Network is seeking an entry-level Fleet Technician to support Journeyman and Technicians in preventive maintenance and repairs. You will learn to diagnose issues, perform inspections, and work on tractors, trailers, and related equipment to keep the fleet safe and reliable.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent and technically relevant training. CDL-A is preferred, and applicants should be prepared to operate with safety in mind within a fast-paced logistics

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Two-year school for medium/heavy duty truck tech training is preferred.
• CDL-A is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of vehicle systems is required.
• Ability to diagnose and repair electrical systems on equipment.
• Welding and cutting skills (gas, electric, MIG, TIG) are beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Assist in inspections and preventive maintenance under supervision.
• Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, fuel/ignition, and exhaust systems as needed.
• Document work in SAP with accurate complaint, cause, and correction.
• Develop efficiency with Sysco computer programs used in maintenance.
• Assess roadworthiness and DOT compliance before returning equipment to service.
• Collaborate to plan a prioritized fleet work schedule.

Responsibilities

• Learn to perform required inspections and preventive maintenance under the guidance of fleet technician journeyman, fleet technician or fleet manager on vehicles and equipment (Tractors, Trailers, Convertor Dollies, Lift Gates, Light Duty Vehicles) to maximize the safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the life cycle of the fleet to include, but not limited to FAI/CVI (First Article Inspection/ Commerical Vehicle Inspection) (Annual) Inspections
• Learn to perform maintenance repairs on all vehicles under the guidance of fleet technician journeyman, fleet technician or fleet manager such as inspections, scheduled repairs, malfunctions and road-call repairs in a safe, efficient, and quality manner to include, but not limited to addressing all driver Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) write-ups in a timely manner, diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repairs to engines, transmissions, fuel & ignition systems, exhaust systems (including Regen), intake systems, brake systems, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, liftgate hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems.
• Document all work performed on the work order (SAP) using complaint, cause, and correction format
• Learn & develop efficiency in all maintenance related to Sysco computer programs
• Decide if a piece of equipment is roadworthy and meets DOT regulations before being released back to operations use. This could cause operations to incur additional expense by renting equipment but the safety of personnel and FMCR should always take precedence.
• Collaborate with management to create a prioritized work schedule of all fleet equipment that will take into consideration operation needs and pm compliance to strategically place resources as needed.

Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma or Equivalent, Medium/Heavy Duty truck technical training 2-year school

Experience

• None required with proper education

Professional Skills

• Current and Valid Drivers License, CDL-A Preferred
• Basic Knowledge and skill of all vehicle systems and Components
• Basic knowledge and skill in diagnosis and repair of electrical systems on all equipment
• Basic knowledge and skill in welding and cutting (gas, electric, MIG, TIG)
• Physical demands to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend and crawl
• Vision abilities to include Close & Distance vision, color, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
