Job summary

Horizontal is seeking an on-site Sensor/Electrical Engineer to support vehicle operations in Los Angeles. You will troubleshoot in real‑time, perform root-cause analyses, and work closely with cross‑functional teams to keep a growing fleet up and running while enabling new operational locations.

The role emphasizes hands-on debugging, documentation, and collaboration with engineering to improve tools and diagnostics for fleet uptime and service efficiency.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years in transportation, aerospace, or autonomous vehicle environments focusing on perception systems and sensors.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of low- and high-voltage circuits and safe troubleshooting practices.
  • Experience with Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS).
  • Ability to understand hardware/software system architecture in an operational setting.
  • Skilled at reading schematics, electrical diagrams, connector views, and pinouts.
  • Strong analytical mindset with ability to break down complex issues into actionable solutions.
  • Clear communicator who can collaborate across teams.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the main technical contact for urgent fleet issues and support technicians with fast, effective problem resolution.
  • Investigate vehicle and sensor-related issues by reviewing logs, analyzing data, and identifying root causes.
  • Build, improve, and maintain troubleshooting documentation to help technicians work more efficiently.
  • Support hardware bring-up and validation for new sensor components such as LiDAR, radar, and cameras.
  • Develop diagnostic methods that improve troubleshooting speed, calibration accuracy, and data integrity.
  • Review historical fleet and sensor data to identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with engineering teams to enhance tools, improve issue detection, and implement long-term countermeasures.
  • Define key data points needed to confirm fixes and measure the success of corrective actions.
  • Collaborate across teams to support ongoing performance, reliability, and operational uptime.
  • Be available for overtime when needed and travel occasionally within the U.S. to support operations.
