The City of Salem Fleet Services Division is responsible for providing comprehensive mechanical maintenance and repair services for a wide range of municipal vehicles and equipment. This includes police vehicles, fire apparatus, heavy-duty trucks, construction machinery, and grounds maintenance equipment such as riding lawn mowers.
What you will do:The Fleet Services Technician - Swing Shift plays a vital role in keeping essential city operations running smoothly. This is a journey-level position that focuses on diagnosis and repair of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and hydraulic systems of equipment and vehicles with gas, diesel, and air-cooled engines. Work responsibilities include performing preventive maintenance, conducting general and emergency repairs both in the shop and in the field, accurately documenting all services and repairs in a computerized maintenance system, and contributing to a clean, safe, and efficient working environment.

- Position schedule is (four 10's) swing shift, Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 2:00 p.m. – 12:30 a.m.

What are the minimum qualifications?- Must pass the pre-employment background check, drug test (including marijuana), and physical exam.
- Must have an Oregon Commercial Driver Class A license, or the ability to obtain within 6 months from date of hire and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
- Two (2) years of specialized training in automotive and/or heavy equipment systems repair at an accredited trade school or college, and three (3) years of experience in vehicle and/or equipment preventative maintenance and repair, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
- Must pass criminal background check necessary to obtain Criminal Justice Information System clearance within 30 days of hire (clearance must be maintained throughout employment)
- Possession of other certificates, registrations and/or licenses mandated by law.
- Must have, or the ability to obtain, at least five (5) specific A.S.E. certifications within 12 months from date of hire, and a total of eight ASE or EVT certifications within 18 months from date of hire.
- Must possess own hand tools sufficient to perform the duties of the position (specialty tools will be provided by the City).

Preferred Qualifications (Not required to apply):What are the preferred experience, knowledge, training, skills, and/or educations:
- EVT Fire Apparatus Certifications.
- EVT Master Fire Apparatus and/or ASE Master Certification in Automotive or Heavy Truck highly desired.
- Use of electronic diagnostic equipment and software.
- Use of fleet management computer system.
- ACommercial Driver Class A license preferred or have the ability to obtain within 6 months from date of hire.
