The City of Salisbury seeks a Fleet Services Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on Class 1–8 vehicles, construction equipment, and fire apparatus. You will keep accurate records of all work and operate diverse systems with care.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, 2+ years in vehicle repair or technical training, and a NC CDL with passenger/tanker endorsements; ASE/EVT certifications are encouraged and a $2,000 sign-on bonus is offered.

Fleet Services Mechanic

We are seeking motivated, skilled candidates to join our team as a Fleet Services Mechanic. In this role, you will perform preventative maintenance and technical repairs on Class 1 through Class 8 vehicles, construction equipment, and fire apparatus. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records and files for all work performed.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on various types of vehicles and equipment, including gas and diesel engines, electrical systems, brakes, transmission, hydraulic, and air systems.
• Operate a variety of tools and machinery in a safe and responsible manner.
• Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication of steel parts and components.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot drivability and electrical/electronic issues on vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date repair records and files.

A mechanic with strong diagnostic skills in drivability and electrical/electronic systems is highly desirable. Previous experience working on fire apparatus, heavy-duty trucks, or construction equipment is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years’ experience in vehicle repair and maintenance, or completion of technical training in vehicle and equipment repair.
• Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (with passenger and tanker endorsements) with a good driving record.
• Ability to obtain an ASE & EVT certification, along with State Inspection certification.
• Self-starter with strong leadership qualities and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Additional Preferred Skills

• Experience working with Class 1 through Class 8 vehicles, fire apparatus, or construction equipment.
• Advanced knowledge of drivability and diagnostic systems.
• Welding and fabrication experience are a plus.

Closing Date: November 10, 2026 Hiring range: $22.50 - $32.18 / hour – Depending on Experience $2,000.00 sign-on bonus to be paid as a lump sum after completion of a successful probationary period
