Job summary

San Antonio Shoemakers (SAS) seeks a Corporate Transportation & Environmental, Health & Safety Manager in San Antonio to lead fleet operations, safety compliance, and environmental programs across the organization.

The role focuses on fleet management, vehicle maintenance, regulatory compliance with DOT and OSHA, safety training, incident investigations, and continuous improvement in partnership with leadership. Strong communication in English and a technical background are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Safety, Engineering or related technical field preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with a wide variety of audiences.
• At least 5 years of experience in the required fields.
• Knowledge of environmental requirements, regulatory standards and industrial safety practices.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle operations, maintenance, and safety regulations.
• Problem-solving and decision-making abilities to handle operational exceptions and emergencies.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English.

Responsibilities

• Fleet Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day fleet activities, including vehicle scheduling, driver coordination, and route optimization.
• Maintenance and Repairs: Manage preventive maintenance schedules, coordinate repairs, and ensure vehicles meet safety standards.
• Compliance and Safety: Ensure adherence to regulations from DOT, OSHA, driver and vehicle licensing, registration, training and maintain safety records.
• Cost Management: Monitor fuel usage, maintenance costs, insurance, lease payment and total cost of ownership, while optimizing fleet utilization.
• Procurement and Disposal: Oversee vehicle acquisition, specification and end-of-life disposal, including vendor negotiations and cost analysis, communicating these transactions to SAS Senior Leadership and the SAS insurance company.
• Team Leadership: Supervise drivers, mechanics, and administrative staff, balancing operational priorities with personnel management.
• Safety Audits and Hazard Assessments: Maintain and enhance safety & environmental awareness training programs.
• Environmental Compliance: Analyze plant safety through inspections and audits to drive safety resource allocation and initiatives.
• Training and Compliance: Educate employees on safety protocols and emergency procedures through workshops and training.
• Incident Investigation and Reporting: Respond to workplace accidents, analyze root-causes, document findings and recommend corrective actions.
• Emergency Response Planning: Develop plans for fires, chemical spills, or other emergencies.
• Policy Development and Continuous Improvement: Create and update safety and environmental policies and foster a culture of safety.
