Job summary

The City of Greensboro is seeking a detail-oriented Preventative Maintenance Technician to join the Equipment Services Division. You will perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on a diverse fleet of City vehicles, construction equipment, and shop tools.

This non-exempt position offers day shifts, safety training, and opportunities to gain North Carolina licenses and ASE certifications while supporting public services.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, or 3 years education plus 3 years related maintenance experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• 1+ years in automotive and heavy truck/equipment maintenance.
• This is a Non-Exempt position under FLSA.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on all types of equipment and maintain accurate records within the Fleet Management Software.
• Conduct North Carolina State inspections on vehicles with OBD and identify emissions-related issues.
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical issues on City automobiles, trucks, and equipment.
• Diagnose, maintain, and repair electrical and electronic systems, including ignition systems, computers, and batteries.
• Repair and replace components such as wiper blades, filters, belts, lights, and other parts.
• Perform daily forklift inspections and maintain inspection logs.
• Operate, maintain, and repair shop equipment (hoists, grinders, welders, etc.).
• Perform on-site and off-site service calls to support operations.
• Clean and maintain maintenance workshops and service vehicles.
• Repair small engine equipment (chainsaws, trimmers, etc.).
• Follow all safety procedures and work practices.
