Job summary

Young Brothers is seeking an experienced Sr Port Engineer to direct the maintenance and regulatory compliance of our tug fleet from Honolulu. You will oversee budgets, manage a team of engineers, and serve as the primary technical authority for vessel inspections, repairs, and dry-dockings.

You will lead safety initiatives, coordinate with operations and regulatory bodies, and ensure fleet readiness for inter-island service, while maintaining strong vendor relationships and strategic capital

Qualifications

  • High school education is desirable; maritime academy or college degree preferred.
  • 3–5 years as a tugboat engineer or shoreside management experience preferred.
  • Must possess a valid USCG engineer's license or Designated Duty Engineer (DDE).

Responsibilities

  • Directs and oversees maintenance and regulatory compliance for the 8-vessel tug fleet.
  • Manage budgets: capital expenditures (~$10M over 5 years) and maintenance expenditures ($2.5–3M annually).
  • Lead and supervise 12 engineers and 8 shoreside engineers; recruit, train, and develop staff.
  • Serve as liaison for USCG, ABS inspections, surveys, and regulatory surveys.
  • Oversee safety programs and enforce a strong safety culture across vessels and crews.
  • Coordinate with operations and vendors; negotiate with OEMs and maintain vendor relationships.
