Job summary

The City of Grand Forks ND is seeking an experienced Mechanic to join the Fleet Maintenance team. You will keep the city’s vehicle and equipment fleet—fire engines to snowplows—safe, road-ready, and running efficiently.

This hands-on role supports essential city services and includes a sign-on bonus totaling $5,000, paid after probation and at one year. Responsibilities include servicing, inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining records; coordinating parts and tools; and performing

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in maintenance and repair of light to heavy duty vehicles and equipment.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL with air brake endorsement preferred within six months; ASE certificate desirable.

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain, inspect City vehicles and equipment; perform routine servicing and tune-ups.
• Diagnose problems, disassemble, inspect and evaluate repair options with supervisor.
• Maintain parts inventory, obtain cost estimates, place orders and track expenditures.
• Perform emergency repairs in the field and support maintenance of work areas.
• Build and install equipment; weld as needed and maintain detailed records of all work.
