Job summary

The City of Grand Forks is seeking an experienced Mechanic to join our Fleet Maintenance team. You will keep the city’s vehicle and equipment fleet—from fire engines to garbage trucks and snowplows—safe, road‑ready, and running efficiently. This is a hands‑on role that supports essential city services.

Sign‑on bonus: $2,500 after six months and another $2,500 after one year, contingent on probation. A strong focus on preventive maintenance and detailed record‑keeping is required.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in the maintenance and repair of light to heavy duty motorized vehicles and diesel mechanics.
• Equivalent to an Associate’s degree with major coursework in mechanical trades or related field.

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain, inspect City vehicles and equipment; perform routine servicing and tune‑ups.
• Diagnose mechanical problems; disassemble, inspect, and evaluate repair options; maintain records of work.
• Perform emergency repairs in the field and in the shop; install new equipment and clean work area.
• Maintain inventory and assist with parts purchasing; provide budget recommendations and cost estimates.
