Job summary

The City of Greenwood Village is seeking Fleet Mechanic I/II to maintain and repair city vehicles and equipment. You will diagnose mechanical issues, perform routine maintenance, and document service activities, supporting safe and reliable operations in a municipal fleet.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of automotive repair experience for Mechanic I.
• 2+ years of automotive repair experience for Mechanic II.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
• Ability to obtain a Class B CDL within 180 days.
• ASE, Emissions, and A/C 609 certifications are preferred.
• Welding and fabrication experience is advantageous.
• DOT inspector qualifications may be required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and emission testing.
• Operate shop machinery and tools, including lathes, presses, grinders, and welding equipment.
• Document repairs and maintain accurate service records.
• Manage parts inventory and coordinate with vendors for purchases.
• Assist with specialized fabrication and welding (Mechanic II).
• Support emergency operations and snow/ice control when needed.

JOB TITLE: Fleet Mechanic I/II

DEPARTMENT: Public Works

SALARY RANGE: $25.35 - $39.32 per hour

HIRING RANGE: Fleet Mechanic I: $25.35 - $35.14 per hour

Fleet Mechanic II: $28.05 - $39.32 per hour

Commensurate to experience.

This is a Full-time/Non-Exempt position

About the Role

The Fleet Mechanic I and II positions are essential to keeping Greenwood Village moving. You’ll perform major and minor mechanical repairs on internal combustion and diesel engines, diagnose vehicle issues, and maintain a variety of maintenance equipment. What You’ll Do

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on City vehicles and equipment.


• Perform preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and emission testing.


• Operate shop machinery and tools, including lathes, presses, grinders, and welding equipment.


• Document repairs and maintain accurate service records.


• Manage parts inventory and coordinate with vendors for purchases.


• Assist with specialized fabrication and welding (Mechanic II).


• Support emergency operations and snow/ice control when needed.

What We're Looking For

Mechanic I

• 0–2 years of automotive mechanical repair experience.


• High School Diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.


• Ability to obtain a valid Class “B” CDL within 180 days.


• Strong troubleshooting and repair skills.

Mechanic II

• 2+ years of automotive mechanical repair experience.


• ASE Certification, Emissions License Certification, and A/C 609 Certification.


• Ability to meet DOT inspector qualifications.


• Welding and fabrication experience.


• Equivalent to an associate’s degree in automotive repair or related field.

Working Conditions

Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. This position may require evenings, weekends, and overtime during emergencies. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual labor is required.
