Position: Fleet Mechanic I
UPMC is looking for a full-time Fleet Mechanic I to support our UPMC Employee Transit Garage in Pittsburgh.
This position works Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., with weekends off. Optional 4/10s when CDL with Passenger Endorsement is obtained.
Purpose:
The Fleet Mechanic I will perform minor component repairs or replacements and assist with the removal, replacement, and repair of major components.
Responsibilities:
- Perform repairs or replacements such as preventive maintenance, front end/tandem axle alignments, minor electrical system repairs, and identify defects in driveline, brake, electrical, cab, frame, suspension, steering, air, and related systems.
- Pickup and delivery of vehicles.
- Maintain a mechanic's tool set, typically including sockets, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, and other tools for vehicle repair and maintenance.
- Maintain work area appearance and safety.
- Use hand tools and power tools, such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, jacks, and hoists.
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure proper operation.
- Perform routine maintenance like oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
- Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
- Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
- Test drive trucks and buses to diagnose malfunctions or verify proper functioning.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
- Examine and adjust safety guards, loose bolts, and devices.
- Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances to match factory specifications.
- Specialize in repairing and maintaining engine parts, such as fuel injection systems.
- Perform duties in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
