UPMC is looking for a full-time Fleet Mechanic I to support our UPMC Employee Transit Garage (Pittsburgh).

This position works Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., weekends off! Optional 4/10s when CDL with Passenger Endorsement is obtained.

Purpose:

The Fleet Mechanic I will perform minor component repair or replacement and assist with the removal, replacement, and repair of major components.

Responsibilities:

• Perform repairs or replacements including Preventive Maintenance Service, Front End/Tandem Axle alignments, Minor electrical system repairs. Identify defects in driveline, brake, electrical, cab, frame, suspension, steering, air, and related systems. Pickup and delivery of vehicles.
• Set up a mechanic's tool set, typically including sockets, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, and other tools for various repair and maintenance jobs on vehicles.
• Maintain work area appearance and safety.
• Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools like pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
• Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure proper operation.
• Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
• Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
• Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
• Test drive trucks and buses to diagnose malfunctions or ensure proper functioning.
• Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
• Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
• Specialize in repairing and maintaining engine parts, such as fuel injection systems.
• Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
