Job Category: Delivery

TriStar Beverage, a Hand Family Company, is seeking a self-motivated, mechanically inclined individual to serve as a mechanic helper/trainee in our Clarksville diesel shop. Previous employment or training in an equipment repair and/or maintenance role is preferred. We're looking for someone who already likes to turn wrenches and use tools and wants to make it a career.

This position will assist with repairs, routine service and preventative maintenance for delivery and other vehicles to help ensure all vehicles are kept within Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations at all times. This position is responsible for the overall cleanliness and orderliness of the shop. The ability to maintain paperwork and records in accordance with company policy and DOT regulations is essential.

Working conditions include exposure to some fluctuations in temperature due to seasonal conditions and the work requires frequent pushing, pulling, and lifting of heavy objects. Manual dexterity, coordination, and mobility are required. The individual selected must be able to lift heavy parts (up to 70 pounds) and tools, handle greasy and dirty parts, and stand or lie in awkward positions while assisting with repairs. The individual hired must provide their own common mechanical tools to perform their daily duties; necessary specialty tools will be provided by the Company.

This is a full time position with an excellent pay and benefits package, including medical, dental, and 401(k) plans, paid vacation and personal leave, plus more.

This position could lead to a successful career as a diesel mechanic through assisting with and learning to:

  • Troubleshoot issues and make repairs to ensure an adequate number of delivery and sales vehicles are available.
  • Diagnose engine systems and perform diesel and gasoline engine repairs, including minor tune-ups.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot and perform drive train component repairs.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot and perform hydraulic system repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair suspension and steering systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot and repair electrical systems.
  • Perform road calls in a safe, fast, and professional manner when necessary.
  • Assist other mechanics with troubleshooting and repairs when problems arise.
  • Maintain company records and complete work orders on equipment.
  • Balance wheels to minimize wear on tires and rotate wheels at prescribed mileage intervals.
  • Tune up engines to maintain combustion control standards.
  • Adjust equipment to standards set by state DOT for motor vehicle inspections and safety standards.
  • Disassemble, inspect, and replace worn or broken parts. Fit and adjust new or repaired parts.
  • Test drive repaired equipment.
  • Use hoist wrenches, gauges, drills or grinders, or other specialized mechanic tools and equipment.
  • Oil and grease vehicles; change filters.
  • Maintain part usage records and order repair parts from designated suppliers.
  • Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action taken.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

We're looking for a person who can also help with and learn to service and repair gasoline-powered automobiles, electric tow motors, and a variety of farm equipment that includes tractors, bushhogs, and mowers.

To be successful in this position, the person hired must have a sense of urgency about responding to equipment issues and repair needs.

Qualifications

We expect the person who is hired into this position to present a professional public image and perform in a manner that will reflect favorably on the Company. This includes maintaining safe driving habits at all times and abiding by all laws. The person hired will interact regularly with employees from different departments, including delivery, sales, operations and admin; therefore, good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to interact in a positive manner with others, is required.

Qualified applicants will possess a valid driver license and a good driving record with few or no violations. The person hired must be able to write legibly to complete work orders and other required paperwork and must be able to read and comprehend maintenance and repair manuals.
