Job summary

The City of Williamsburg's Public Works Department is seeking a Fleet Mechanic to maintain and repair city-owned vehicles and equipment. You will perform routine inspections, basic repairs, and preventive maintenance under the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and several years of automotive repair experience; a CDL or ability to obtain, plus a safety inspection license, are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Three years of experience in diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of automotive equipment.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and basic repair of automotive equipment and City vehicles.
• Work under the supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor and ensure safety and reliability of equipment.

The City of Williamsburg is seeking a qualified applicant to fill the Fleet Mechanic position in our Public Works Department. This position is responsible for performing routine and basic work in the inspection, maintenance, and basic repair of automotive equipment, City vehicles, and other related equipment. The work is performed under the regular supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent and
• Three (3) years of experience in problem diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a variety of automotive equipment; or
• An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications:

• Acceptable criminal background, DMV check and drug screen results
• Class “B” commercial driver’s license (CDL) or ability to obtain learners permit within 6 months license within 18 months of employment
• Virginia State Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection License or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment
