Job summary

The City of Sidney, Ohio seeks a Fleet Mechanic to manage the operation, maintenance, and repair of the city’s diverse vehicle fleet, from sedans to heavy equipment. This role reports to the Fleet Maintenance Manager and requires hands-on expertise in diesel and standard vehicle repair.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, plus a two-year technical program in heavy truck/equipment diesel repair, and 3+ years in skilled technician work with 2+ years in heavy equipment and 2+ years

  • Graduate of a two-year technical school for heavy truck/equipment diesel repair.
  • Three (3) years’ experience as a skilled technician; minimum of two (2) years’ experience in heavy equipment repair; minimum of two (2) years’ experience in standard passenger vehicle repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job description

General Description

Under the general direction of the Fleet Maintenance Manager, the Fleet Mechanic is tasked with the operation, maintenance and repair of the City’s fleet; including sedans, light trucks, heavy trucks and miscellaneous equipment.

Qualifications

Completion of secondary education (high school or GED); graduate of a two-year technical school for heavy truck/equipment diesel repair. three (3) years’ experience as a skilled technician, minimum of two (2) years’ experience in heavy equipment repair, minimum of two (2) years’ experience in standard passenger vehicle repair or any combination of training, education, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licensure Or Certification Requirements

Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license (Class B or higher) and remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance policy; must have A.S.E. certification as a Master Mechanic or to be obtain within one (1) year of hire.
