DFM Solutions in Fort Wayne, IN is seeking a Fleet Mechanic to maintain our company vehicles and fleet equipment. You will perform preventative maintenance, diagnose issues, and complete repairs to keep operations safe and reliable.

Responsibilities include following service manuals, using diagnostic tools, maintaining records, coordinating with leadership, and upholding safety standards while working in an industrial setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, brake, steering, suspension, and related vehicle systems.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance and vehicle inspection programs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on company vehicles and fleet equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, brake, steering, suspension, and other vehicle-related issues.
  • Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, fluid and filter changes, lubrication, tire service, brake inspections, and other scheduled maintenance.
  • Repair and replace vehicle components including brakes, batteries, starters, alternators, belts, hoses, suspension components, and other mechanical parts.
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment, service manuals, schematics, and manufacturer specifications to troubleshoot and complete repairs.
  • Conduct routine vehicle and equipment inspections to identify safety concerns, maintenance needs, and potential mechanical failures.
  • Respond to vehicle breakdowns and equipment issues as needed to minimize operational downtime.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, repair, and service records for fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Monitor vehicle condition and communicate significant repair needs, recurring issues, or recommendations to site leadership.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, parts, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Assist with coordinating outside repairs or specialty services when work cannot be completed internally.
  • Arrive on the job ready to work every day according to the work plan and schedule.
  • Demonstrate role model behavior for safety, integrity, and ethical standards.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Job description

FLEET MECHANIC

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Fleet Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and inspections on company vehicles and fleet equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. The Fleet Mechanic supports site operations by maintaining fleet readiness, responding to equipment issues, and completing repairs in accordance with DFM Solutions' safety and maintenance standards.

Primary Goals and Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on company vehicles and fleet equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, brake, steering, suspension, and other vehicle-related issues.
  • Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, fluid and filter changes, lubrication, tire service, brake inspections, and other scheduled maintenance.

  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Role Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience performing automotive, truck, fleet, or heavy equipment maintenance and repair preferred.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, brake, steering, suspension, and related vehicle systems.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance and vehicle inspection programs.
  • Ability to use computerized diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and other automotive repair equipment.
  • ASE certifications preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • CDL preferred or ability to obtain based on fleet requirements.
  • Ability to read and understand service manuals, schematics, maintenance procedures, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Good computer skills and ability to maintain electronic maintenance and repair records.
  • Experienced in industrial and automotive safety practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional, service-oriented, dependable, and easy to work with.
Working Conditions
  • Required to communicate in an industrial setting at a moderate noise level.
  • Required to stand and walk on a concrete surface for 8 hours per day.
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception and adjust for focus.
