Position Overview

This position is responsible for performing a full range of maintenance and repair work on City vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose repair needs for a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
• Repair systems such as steering, braking, hydraulic, electrical, lighting, air conditioning, suspension, and related components.
• Fabricate and weld hoses and related materials.
• Remove, replace, and balance tires.
• Perform data entry, work orders, electronic diagnosis, and shop operation information input.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance, including meetings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge: Maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment, applicable tools, standard welding principles, occupational hazards, and safe work practices.

Skills: Performing repairs, determining repair needs, effective communication, and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. May require exerting significant force and working with mechanical parts, fumes, gases, and noisy environments.

Experience and Education

Bachelor's degree with 2 years of related experience, or Associate's degree with 3 years, or equivalent certifications and experience. Some experience as a Fleet Mechanic II is required.

Licensing

• Valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License Class A with Air Brake Endorsement.
• Certification in automotive and heavy truck areas by Michigan or ASE.
• Forklift Operator Certification (within six months of hire).
