Job description

Fleet Manufacturing Technician

This position plays a key role in ensuring the efficiency, safety, and reliability of our customers' vehicles. This mid-level position requires a high level of expertise in performing various tasks that may include vehicle body repairs, painting, structural work, welding, cabinet making, fabrication, upholstery, electrical harnesses assembly, disassembly, and parts installation. This position requires solid technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering top-quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Vehicle Body Repair:
    Perform bodywork and repair tasks on vehicles, including dent repairs, scratch removal, and major structural repairs. Ensure all repairs are completed to the highest quality standards, meeting manufacturer and industry specifications.
  2. Painting and Refinishing:
    Prepare surfaces for priming/painting by cleaning, guide coating, sanding, masking, and applying primers. Apply paint and clear coat with precision, ensuring accuracy and achieving appropriate finishes.
  3. Frame and Structural Repair:
    Diagnose and repair frame and structural damage using frame straightening equipment and advanced techniques. Verify the alignment and structural integrity of repaired vehicles.
  4. Vehicle Manufacturing, Assembly and Disassembly:
    Perform complex assembly and disassembly tasks on a variety of vehicles, including classic cars, modern automobiles, and specialty vehicles. Comprehensive disassembly, meticulously documenting the process and organizing parts for repair or restoration.
  5. Parts Replacement and Installation:
    Perform the removal and replacement of damaged vehicle parts, such as panels, fenders, bumpers, and lights. Ensure precise alignment and fitment of new parts and guide the team in this process.
  6. Rework:
    Perform rework to current defects found during Quality Control and other inspections.
  7. Parts Storage and Packing:
    Perform disassembly, identify, tag, pack, and store parts in a safe and secure manner to prevent damage or loss. Retrieve parts from storage and reuse as needed.
  8. Sub-Assemblies:
    Assemble and manufacture various components including upholstery, vacuum forming, wiring harnesses, switch panels, and various other components.
  9. Refurbishment and Upfit:
    Diagnose and repair ambulances, support vehicles, and other GMR equipment. Perform all types of repairs and parts exchange including engines, transmissions, and electrical. Assist ambulance manufacturing at all levels and in all areas. Assist in opening and preparing estimates for refurbishment and repair. Assembly and disassembly of vehicles as needed. Upfit vehicles.
  10. Quality Assurance:
    In conjunction with the Quality Control Department, conduct thorough quality checks and reviews to ensure that all repairs, refinishing, assembly, and disassembly meet or exceed industry standards and client expectations.
  11. Resource Assistance:
    Advise leadership regarding resource needs, including equipment, tools, materials, and safety supplies to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  12. Compliance and Safety:
    Ensure adherence to safety protocols and quality standards. Report any safety hazards or concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  13. Other Duties:
    As assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Automotive Trade School or other related certifications and degrees preferred.
  • Two (2) years of related experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
