Job summary

Marten Transport, Ltd. seeks a drivers supervisor in Operations to monitor driver performance and serve as the primary link between drivers and the company.

You will manage a full fleet of tractors and drivers, focusing on on-time pickups, route efficiency, hours of service compliance, and cost control, while ensuring drivers understand load expectations at dispatch. This role requires strong communication, solid organizational skills, and the ability to stay calm under pressure while coaching

Qualifications

• Requires strong oral and written communication, highly organized, detail oriented, able to stay calm under pressure.
• Must be able to manage multiple tasks and coordinate with drivers and management.
• Experience in fleet management or similar supervisory role preferred.

Responsibilities

• Be sole communications link to drivers for load information, advances, POs, maintenance and company news.
• Manage a full fleet of tractors and drivers, focusing on on-time performance, route efficiency, and cost control.
• Ensure drivers understand load expectations and dispatch details.
• Maintain daily accounting of all assigned trucks and drivers.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Job description

PURPOSE:

Serve as driver\'s supervisor/representative in Operations. Manage drivers performance in identified categories and be primary communication link to drivers. Work to achieve optimum driver and customer satisfaction.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Sole communications link to driver, including, but not limited to, load information, advances, purchase orders, maintenance coordination, performance counseling and dissemination of general company news and information.
2. Responsible for assigned full fleet of tractors and drivers, including, but not limited to effective management for optimum performance in the following categories:
   • On-time pickup and delivery performance
   • Out of route miles
   • Hours of service compliance
   • Driver availability
   • Accommodation of special routing needs
   • Cost control
3. Insure that each driver has an adequate understanding of all details of customer and company expectations on each load at the point of dispatch.
4. Daily accounting of all assigned trucks and drivers.
5. Other duties as assigned by authorized personnel.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Daily interaction with drivers, other operations staff and management via qualcomm, telephone and in person.

ABILITIES/SKILLS REQUIRED:

Strong oral and written communication skills, strong organizational ability, detail oriented, ability to remain calm under pressure, handle multiple and varied tasks, basic typing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Reasonable manual dexterity.

EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:

College degree in business or five years experience in fleet management.
