Job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Responsible for ensuring that vehicles are available to meet operational needs by directing the work of fleet maintenance personnel. Ensures that scheduled and unscheduled maintenance is accurately performed in a timely manner. Maintains adequate inventory of parts, tools and equipment. Prepares maintenance budget and provides reports regarding the number and types of repairs performed on the fleet vehicles. The Fleet Manager is also responsible for the upkeep of the maintenance bay, all tools, equipment, and the maintenance truck.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate’s degree or equivalent experience required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Basic understanding of vehicle systems and technology including electrical systems, transmissions, and suspension systems.
• Knowledge of tools and equipment used for preventative maintenance and repairs.
• Minimum 2 years management experience.
• Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of vehicle anatomy, electrical components and part functionality.
• Knowledge of automotive trends and equipment used in fleets.
• Knowledge of state and local rules and regulations regarding emergency vehicles.
• Ability to communicate and negotiate with vendors and suppliers.
• Ability to track total cost of ownership, prepare annual budget, and analyze data to forecast future needs.
• Ability to apply specialized knowledge to practical problems.
• Ability to select, train, direct and manage employees including evaluating performance and taking corrective action as needed.
• Ability to evaluate processes and implement changes as needed.
• Ability to utilize computer systems to manage inventory and maintain database of maintenance and inspections.
• Effective communication and presentation skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Primarily inside work with some outside work in ALL weather conditions.
• General working hours will be Monday through Friday; however, this position is essentially “on call” 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.
• Occasional travel as needed for training or other purposes.
• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, carry, push, pull and lift or move up to 50+ lbs. Ability to operate ambulance units and use various shop equipment.
