Job summary

Qualifications

  • Associate degree preferred; equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Five years of related fleet/maintenance/operations experience preferred.
  • CDL Class A preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the cost-benefit of maintaining aging equipment versus acquiring new or leased vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform lifecycle analysis to determine useful lifespan, repair trends, maintenance costs, utilization, and optimal timing for sale, replacement, or retirement.
  • Develop and present data-driven recommendations for fleet additions, acquisitions, leasing, replacements, and disposals aligned with company needs and budget.
  • Research and assess new technologies, equipment, telematics, and fleet management tools to improve operational efficiency, reporting, and compliance.
  • Track new vehicle and equipment acquisitions, ensuring proper documentation and alignment with company policies.
  • Manage annual registrations, titles, taxes, bills of sale, and other compliance documentation for company vehicles and equipment.
  • Oversee maintenance scheduling, workflow, and priorities to ensure timely and effective service of all fleet assets.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources to resolve mechanical or technical issues.
  • Negotiate pricing, service agreements, leasing terms, and vendor relationships for favorable terms and cost efficiency.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the fleet budget and report on maintenance costs, utilization, and budget performance.

Overview

The Fleet Manager oversees the company’s fleet operations for all divisions to include CTD & Eagle Precast, including vehicles, heavy equipment, garage personnel, vendor relationships, and related facility maintenance. This role ensures all fleet assets are safe, dependable, compliant, cost‑effective, and aligned with operational needs. The Fleet Maintenance Manager provides strategic oversight through lifecycle analysis, cost‑benefit evaluation, fleet performance monitoring, and data‑driven recommendations for equipment acquisition, maintenance, leasing, replacement, and disposal.

Daily Duties
Fleet Analysis and Acquisition
  • Evaluate the cost‑benefit of maintaining aging equipment versus acquiring new or leased vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform lifecycle analysis to determine useful lifespan, repair trends, maintenance costs, utilization, and optimal timing for sale, replacement, or retirement.
  • Develop and present data‑driven recommendations for fleet additions, acquisitions, leasing, replacements, and disposals aligned with company needs and budget.
  • Research and assess new technologies, equipment, telematics, and fleet management tools to improve operational efficiency, sustainability, reporting, and compliance.
  • Track new vehicle and equipment acquisitions, ensuring proper documentation and alignment with company policies.
  • Manage annual registrations, titles, taxes, bills of sale, and other compliance documentation for company vehicles and equipment.
Maintenance Operations and Compliance
  • Oversee maintenance scheduling, workflow, and priorities to ensure timely and effective service of all fleet assets.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources to resolve complex mechanical or technical issues.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, safety inspections, company policies, and required maintenance documentation.
  • Evaluate cost‑effective repair methods by balancing price, parts availability, repair quality, downtime, and operational needs.
  • Conduct regular site visits and inspections to support quality control, fleet readiness, shop cleanliness, and accountability standards.
  • Support yard operations with requests for personnel, equipment, materials, and facility repair or maintenance needs.
Vendor and Cost Management
  • Negotiate pricing, service agreements, leasing terms, and vendor relationships to ensure quality, responsiveness, favorable terms, and cost efficiency.
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships to support timely servicing, repair coordination, and parts availability.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the fleet budget, including maintenance costs, equipment costs, credit card activity, purchase orders, and material requests.
  • Analyze and report on maintenance costs, repair trends, equipment utilization, and budget performance to support operational goals.
  • Maintain accurate and current vehicle and equipment lists to support accounting, insurance, operations, compliance, and planning needs.
Data‑Driven Decision Making
  • Utilize fleet management software, telematics, inventory control systems, and other tools to generate reports on equipment performance, utilization, maintenance history, and costs.
  • Analyze data to identify underperforming, over‑utilized, high‑cost, or aging equipment and recommend corrective action.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators for equipment maintenance, downtime, cost control, utilization, safety compliance, and fleet availability.
  • Provide updates and maintain clear communication with Operations, Yard, Safety, Garage, Administration, and leadership teams.
Leadership and Team Development
  • Determine staffing needs and provide guidance, training, coaching, and professional development opportunities for garage personnel.
  • Collaborate with the mechanics to align daily operations, training priorities, workflow, accountability, and long‑term department goals.
  • Promote a positive team atmosphere that supports safety, efficiency, professionalism, continuous improvement, and strong customer service to internal stakeholders.
  • Work with garage administration to support inventory accuracy, departmental efficiency, documentation, and process improvement.
Position Requirements
  • Associate’s degree in business, Operations, Fleet Management, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Five (5) years of related fleet, maintenance, construction equipment, transportation, or operations experience preferred.
  • CDL Class A preferred.
  • Strong industry knowledge of heavy highway construction, trucking, and related equipment preferred.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of diggers, gradalls, augers, excavators, front loaders, trucks, and similar fleet assets preferred.
  • Advanced mechanical and technical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and make sound recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, budgeting, and cost‑control skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a cross‑functional team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, email, internet applications, fleet management systems, telematics, and inventory control tools.
  • Welding, fabrication, and CPR certifications are preferred.
  • Always make safety a priority.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions

Physical Requirements

  • Sit, stand, walk, kneel, bend, crawl, crouch, climb, and move between office, yard, shop, and field environments throughout the day.
  • Coordinate the use of hands, arms, and legs fully; reach for handles and manipulate objects, materials, controls, and tools as needed.
  • Ability to judge distances, depth perception, reaction time, and respond quickly to signals or changing conditions around vehicles and equipment.
  • Vision required to see details at close range and at a distance, either naturally or with correction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Mental and visual attention is necessary to effectively complete work tasks.

Environmental Conditions

  • Work is performed in office, shop, yard, construction site, and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
  • May be exposed to high levels of noise, grease, dust, fumes, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, and other substances commonly associated with garage, fleet, and construction environments.
  • Seasonal temperature changes may occur when working outdoors or in non‑climate‑controlled facilities.
  • Wear protective or safety equipment as required in the shop, including proper PPE when on active jobsites/yard including steel tip safety boots, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and other necessary PPE.
