Job summary

UNFI is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance on trailers, tractors, and yard tractors, diagnosing and repairing medium to heavy-duty refrigerated trucks and trailers.

You will inspect and repair air and hydraulic brake systems, perform electrical diagnostics, fix liftgate systems, and work on drivetrains, steering, and suspensions. Mentoring junior mechanics and accurate record-keeping are part of the role.

Qualifications

• Experience: Preferred 2 years of mechanical experience or technical training with 1 year of experience.
• Tools: Must have all necessary hand tools
• Driving Experience: Preferred experience in driving/moving Class A equipment
• Certifications: Tire and wheel, brakes, HVAC, and FHWA DOT Inspections preferred
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Repair brakes, rear doors, air systems, and electrical systems with minimal supervision
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Strong teamwork and independent work skills
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Valid driver’s license and must be 21 years of age or older

Responsibilities

• Conduct preventive maintenance, inspections, and general repairs
• Diagnose and repair air and hydraulic brake systems, including ABS
• Perform electrical diagnostics and repairs
• Repair liftgate systems and fabricate as needed
• Diagnose drivelines, steering, and suspensions
• Maintain accurate repair order entries and time accountability in the RTA Maintenance Program
• Perform tire and wheel end maintenance
• Ensure quality work and production efficiency
• Mentor junior mechanics to enhance their skills
• Complete other relevant duties as required
