Job summary

The City of Galveston is seeking a capable maintenance technician to perform routine vehicle maintenance and repair duties at the City’s Garage. You will oil changes and tune ups, check tires and fluids, and ensure vehicles are safe for service.

You will interact with the public, uphold confidentiality, and be ready to respond in emergencies when needed. This role requires basic automotive experience and a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
• Basic vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair practices.
• Safety procedures and practices.
• Personal computer and various software applications.

Responsibilities

• Performs oil changes and tune ups on various vehicles.
• Checks tires, fluid levels, filters, wiper blades, belts, hoses and lights on vehicles.
• Checks gear oil on vehicles.
• Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
• Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.
