Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking a skilled mechanic to perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and inspections on district vehicles. The role supports a team, uses Fleet software, and requires a CDL with Class A; residency in Colorado is expected.

You will handle diagnostic work, maintain safety standards, complete paperwork, and assist with major repairs and inspections under established guidelines.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years mechanic experience required.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CDL with Class A and BP2S endorsements (or ability to acquire within 6 months).
• Must meet insurability requirements for driving DPS vehicles.
• Knowledge of fleet maintenance software (Faster) and diagnostic systems (OBD, Mitchell).
• Strong safety awareness and ability to work in a team.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to multi-task and adapt to interruptions.
• Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on District vehicles in accordance with guidelines.
• Assist technicians with major repairs, inspections, and service calls.
• Complete required forms using computerized systems with accuracy.
• Maintain a safe work area and provide safety training as needed.
• Coordinate with parts counter for availability and checkout of parts.
• Drive/test drive vehicles and comply with traffic rules and safety.
• Maintain knowledge of fleet maintenance practices and technology.
