Job summary

Hawaii Petroleum seeks a motivated Fleet Maintenance Technician in Hilo to maintain, inspect and ensure reliability of the petroleum transport fleet. This role includes hands-on diesel vehicle work, safety focus, and collaboration with operations across Hawaii Island.

The position offers training under experienced technicians, with potential to move toward fuel driver opportunities while staying compliant with OSHA, DOT, and HazMat standards.

Qualifications

• Must be 21+ years old with a high school diploma or GED.
• Current and valid Class B CDL with HazMat and Tank endorsements; TWIC card preferred; ability to obtain.
• Prior shop, maintenance, fuel operations, logistics, trucking, or mechanical work experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with air brake systems, electrical troubleshooting, preventive maintenance inspections; willingness to learn petroleum equipment, DOT requirements, hazardous material safety practices.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in diesel, automotive, or heavy equipment maintenance.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, shop equipment, and diagnostic tools; lift up to 40 pounds; work in various conditions.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventative maintenance on petroleum trucks, tractors, tank trailers, and support equipment.
• Conduct inspections of brakes, lights, tires, suspension, pumps, hoses, valves and other components.
• Assist with troubleshooting minor repairs involving diesel engines, electrical systems, air brakes, hydraulics and tanker equipment.
• Prepare vehicles for DOT inspections and safety checks; maintain records.
• Maintain a clean, safe, organized shop environment and complete work orders and maintenance reports.
• Communicate issues and updates promptly to supervisors and drivers.
• Perform after-hours callouts for fleet issues when needed.
• Safely operate CDL trucks and ensure proper product hauling per regulations.
• Serve as backup Lubricant Delivery Driver when required.
• Participate in trainings and keep licenses and certifications current.
• Follow safety rules and company policies; participate in drug testing program.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned.
