Job summary

Marquis, Inc in Hennepin, Illinois, is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain semi-trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment. You will work with diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems, using diagnostic tools to troubleshoot and ensure reliability.

This role requires hands-on repair, field service when needed, and meticulous record-keeping. A diesel technology background and experience with heavy equipment are preferred; CDL is a plus.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment, or Automotive Repair.
• Experience working on semi-trucks, heavy equipment, or construction/off-road machinery.
• CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
• ASE Diesel Certification or equivalent is a plus.
• Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools, software and repair equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret manuals and schematics.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics and repairs on semi-trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, braking, steering and hydraulics.
• Conduct preventative maintenance to ensure reliability and minimize downtime.
• Utilize diagnostic software and tools to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
• Repair and maintain pumps, cylinders, valves and other hydraulic components.
• Test equipment and vehicles to verify performance and safety after repairs.
• Maintain service records, inspection reports, and maintenance logs.
• Follow inspection procedures and safety protocols.
• Manage parts inventory and shop organization.
• Perform field service repairs as needed in varying outdoor conditions.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering systems, and hydraulics
• Conduct preventative maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime
• Utilize diagnostic software and tools to identify mechanical and electrical issues
• Repair and maintain components such as pumps, cylinders, valves, and other hydraulic systems
• Test equipment and vehicles to verify performance and safety after repairs
• Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and maintenance logs
• Follow established inspection procedures and safety protocols
• Manage parts inventory and ensure proper organization and cleanliness of the shop
• Perform field service repairs as needed in varying outdoor conditions

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Able to work outdoors in all seasons and work at heights.
• Able climb ladders and stairs and lift up to 100lbs
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision and depth perception.

Compensation & Benefits

The starting wage for this position is $30-40/hour, with potential adjustments based on skills, experience, and qualifications.
