Job description

Performs tasks and assignments that will ensure a clean, safe and healthy environment at the City Maintenance facility incorporating the Team Denison Way. Performs a variety of other support functions for Public Works as directed by the Fleet Services Superintendent.

The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competence and satisfactory performance of these duties. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  1. Provide tire service for City vehicles and equipment at Service Center and/or job site locations
  2. Service vehicles/equipment (change oil, all filters & grease, etc.) on a regular basis as required
  3. Assist mechanics with various daily operations
  4. Replace wiper blades, lights, hydraulic hoses and mud flaps
  5. Clean shop area and work maintenance bays
  6. Perform routine grounds maintenance
  7. Clean restrooms and break area
  8. Pick up/deliver supplies and parts as needed
  9. Maintain simple records of tire inventory, supplies and parts used
  10. Other duties as required by the Fleet Division Manager or Supervisor

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Good knowledge of methods, techniques and tools for Fleet activity
  2. Good knowledge and skill in the use of tools, materials and supplies required to repair or replace tires, service equipment and perform preventative maintenance
  3. Good knowledge of departmental policies and procedures relating to servicing equipment and monitoring records of service
  4. Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have high school diploma/GED
  • Valid Driver’s License is required at time of placement with CDL and/or ability to obtain within 90 days
  • Must be able to maintain consistent attendance

  • Ability to withstand frequent carrying and lifting objects ranging from 1-25 pounds
  • Ability to withstand occasionally carrying and lifting objects ranging from 25-50 pounds
  • Ability to withstand occasionally lifting and moving objects ranging from 50-175 pounds
  • Ability to occasionally perform the function of the job by squatting, kneeling and/or crawling
  • Ability to frequently bend, climb, reach overhead and below shoulder level while performing job duties
  • Ability to turn knobs, levers, cranks, wrenches, valves and handles
  • Ability to step up or down to enter City properties
