Job Description

Diagnose, repair, adjust, or maintain any fleet equipment, such as forklifts, engines, pallet jacks, tractors, and motorized carts in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturing specifications. Perform work using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing instruments. Able to communicate effectively and work as a member of a maintenance organization.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Inspecting forklifts, man-lifts, boom lifts, “Joey’s”, and powered pallet jacks for proper performance.
  • Adjusting equipment and replacing faulty parts.
  • Repairing damaged equipment parts.
  • Cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine services on heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Cleaning and servicing of machine attachments.
  • Performing major repair work when necessary.
  • Consulting with other mechanics on smaller jobs.
  • Reporting damaged or faulty equipment to management.

The following is a list of the essential duties and responsibilities that are expected of the maintenance mechanic; however, additional duties may be assigned, as required.

Electrical
  • Safely measure voltage, current and power in AC and DC circuits.
  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot controls and electrical faults on machinery.
  • Able to do basic wiring and understand wire gauges.
  • Able to use a computer and diagnostic software to diagnose electrical and automation problems.
Mechanical
  • Align, install, and maintain belt drives and pulleys; chain and sprocket drives; shaft assemblies; pillow block bearings; various couplings.
  • Install/replace motors.
  • Understand air and water systems.
Hydraulic
  • Understand fluid contamination prevention processes and procedures.
  • Install, repair and maintain pumps, hoses, valves, cylinders, filters, regulators, seals.
Other
  • Must conduct all work on premises.
  • Able to regularly work in dusty factory environment subject to extreme heat and cold temperatures.
  • Must be able to work well with others in a team environment to problem solve and provide backup as needed.
  • Must be able to work at heights exceeding 3 ft.
Education and Experience Requirements

An individual in this position has attained a minimum of HS diploma/GED to meet entry-level requirements and has completed certification in any of the skilled maintenance trades. Education beyond the minimum is an added advantage for career development activities.

The individual will have a minimum of 1-3 years of basic mechanical experience. Individual should also have a basic understanding of computers including Microsoft Office, such as Outlook, Word, Excel and should know how to search, send electronic communication, find files, etc. Individual needs to be able to learn and use preventive maintenance software for scheduling and monitoring various equipment throughout the factory.

The individual should have hands-on experience with all types of equipment controls. Current material handling certification, Lock Out/Tag Out, Lifting & Rigging, preventive or predictive maintenance.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration Requirements

Heavy Equipment mechanic, Vo-Tech certificate in any of the skilled maintenance trades, AAON Provided Education list.

Successful job incumbents will consistently demonstrate competency when engaged in the following critical tasks
  • Evaluate corrective maintenance/repair on machinery.
  • Continuous successful pursuit of and completion of the designated maintenance education program.

  • Replace faulty electrical control components.
  • Replace faulty electrical cords, plugs, and/or switches.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Periodic visits to the manufacturing facility with seasonal hot and cold temperatures, dust, and some chemical fume exposure.
