City of Raleigh seeks a Fleet Maintenance Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain the fleet of solid waste equipment and vehicles. You will oversee quality control and ensure operational readiness across multiple vehicle types, including heavy‑duty diesel units.

Qualifications include a High School diploma or GED, 1–3 years in vehicle maintenance, and a NC Class C license. Work environment spans outdoor, shop, and vehicle settings with safety‑critical duties.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; 1–3 years’ experience in vehicle maintenance or related field
• Equivalent mix of training and/or experience may substitute
• Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
• Knowledge of heavy‑duty diesel equipment and basic automotive systems
• Ability to work as part of a fleet maintenance team
• Comfort with office computer use for record-keeping and diagnostics

Responsabilités

• Transports vehicles from facilities for maintenance, repairs and body shop estimates
• Analyzes and prioritizes service requests to maintain operational readiness
• Performs basic automotive and emergency equipment diagnosis and repairs (battery, tire, fueling, cleaning)
• Responds to emergency service calls for batteries, tire repairs, and minor repairs
• Manages storage of vehicles at designated facilities and motor-pool locations
• Transports refuse vehicles to City garages and approved vendors for maintenance
• Performs quality control checks on vehicles serviced by City garages and outside vendors
• Maintains and organizes files, shop computer databases, and paperwork
