Job summary

The City of Phoenix’s Public Works Department seeks an Equipment Shop Foreman to supervise mechanics in daily preventive maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.

You will assign work, diagnose complex problems, monitor billing in the M5 Fleet system, review outside labor quotes, and ensure payroll accuracy. A valid Class A CDL and ADOT medical certification are required, with drug testing and background checks conducted.

Qualifications

• Three years of supervisory experience in automotive or mechanical maintenance.
• Must pass ADOT medical exam and possess a Class A CDL permit at hire; CDL required within 6 months.
• Some positions require a Class N Tank endorsement.
• Pre-employment drug testing and background check are required.
• Must be physically capable of operating City vehicles and have a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Supervise mechanics in day-to-day maintenance and repair tasks.
• Assign repair work to mechanics or contracted vendors.
• Diagnose complex problems and provide supervisory guidance.
• Ensure timely and accurate billing in the Fleet Management System (M5).
• Review and approve outside labor quotes.
• Review and correct employee labor time and payroll entries.
