The Town of Trumbull seeks an experienced Automotive Mechanic Supervisor responsible for the maintenance and repair of town-owned vehicles and heavy equipment. Candidates should possess extensive experience, including a supervisory background and relevant certifications to ensure top-notch service and safety compliance.
Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all town-owned automobiles and heavy equipment.Inspects vehicles and equipment to determine need for repair.
Schedules and assigns work, directs and assists mechanics in performing various tasks in the repair and maintenance of equipment, such as road rollers and grading moving equipment, tractors, cement mixers, air compressors, boilers, trucks, automobiles, police vehicles and ambulances, etc.
Performs or directs intricate repair jobs involving special assignments, such as setting up test equipment, use of welding equipment or special tools, or maintenance for all equipment and is responsible for periodic check of equipment for preventive maintenance.
Plans and schedules work and instructs personnel in the performance of their duties and keeps time and payroll records of all highway garage employees.
Maintains inventory of parts, supplies and equipment used in garage and requisitions items as required.
Helps develop specifications for new equipment.
Keeps up-to-date on innovations in equipment and processes.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Ensures the highest level of efficiencies in supervising and assigning work.
Responsible for safety and for all OSHA compliance.
Observes all applicable regulations.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
1.Ability to diagnose and resolve motor and equipment problems and to use complicated testing equipment and welding devices and to supervise and instruct others in such work.
2.Skill in the operation, repair and maintenance of automotive and road building and maintenance equipment.
3.Knowledge of record keeping, inventory and personnel procedures.
4.Knowledge of labor contract administration.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Not less than seven (7) years of employment in the repair and maintenance of automotive and highway equipment, including three (3) years in highly skilled mechanical work and three (3) years in a supervisory capacity. ASE certification preferred.
Must have CDL, Class BSUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general supervision of the Director of Public Works or the Public Works General Foreman.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Directs the activities of subordinate employees engaged in repair and maintenance of equipment.
This position shall be only open to permanent full time UPSEU Non-Supervisory Highway & Parks Union Employees who have completed at least (1) one year of service and who meet the qualifications and Experience and Training as contained in the posted job description.
GENERAL INFORMATION ON THIS EXAMINATION WEIGHTS
Each candidate must have had the required experience and training to be eligible for this examination which include: Not less than seven (7) years of employment in the repair and maintenance of automotive and highway equipment, including three (3) years in highly skilled mechanical work and three (3) years in a supervisory capacity. Must have CDL, Class B. ASE certification preferred.
