Job summary

High Transit is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to lead 10–15 technicians across multiple shifts, coordinating planned and emergent maintenance and repairs to keep 1000+ assets operable. You will oversee diagnostics, inventory, and safety programs while partnering with Shipping and SBUs.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma with automotive/mechanics training and 3 years’ lead-mechanic experience; proficient in SAP, Microsoft Office, and Google Docs.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school plus course work in auto and/or equipment mechanics at a trade school and three (3) years’ experience as a lead mechanic or any equivalent combination of education and experience in a role requiring a thorough knowledge of safe working practices, DOT, OSHA and other federal and state regulations
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Google Documents, and SAP applications.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, prioritize, assign, and review maintenance work daily via schedules, work orders as directed by general instructions from Fleet Maintenance Manager.
  • Coordinate with High Transit Shipping department and supported SBU staff to minimize equipment downtime and maximize operational efficiencies.
  • Oversee repair diagnostics on more complex matters and provide coaching where necessary; may be required to road test vehicles to determine necessary repairs.
  • Oversee maintenance shop inventory control system to ensure necessary equipment and parts levels are maintained and purchases are within budget. Review and approve expenses that are within scope of approval level; refer larger expenses or major repairs to Fleet Maintenance Manager.
  • Establish and update preventive maintenance requirements and frequency in the SAP Maintenance system including periodic reviews of the equipment on PM and addition of new equipment.
  • Provide input and assist in the preparation of new equipment justifications and in the selection of the best equipment needed to improve operational efficiencies.
  • Support the Asset Manager with capital plan development and prioritization of equipment replacement.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic and electrical systems to perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance functions on site and on road on fleet equipment used by The High Companies to ensure equipment remains in an operable condition in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Provide input to Fleet Maintenance Manager on manpower planning within department with respect to coworkers’ skill levels, expertise and forecasted demand.
  • Manage coworker performance of direct reports through coaching, feedback, performance evaluations, training plans, and corrective action recommendations consistent with company policy.
  • Promote a safety awareness culture in Fleet Maintenance department in accordance with corporate safety rules, regulations, and procedures by following established procedures in the areas of safety and health. Ensure the facilities are maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  • Maintain and submit on time, all records and reports necessary and/or assigned including, but not limited to, time sheets providing allocation of hours worked, out of service list, work pending list, parts and labor usage, training checklists, and Toolbox Talk forms.
  • Identify, develop, and implement process and system improvements to enhance departmental efficiency, including transitioning paper-based workflows to digital tools and streamlining maintenance-related documentation, tracking, and reporting.
  • Work with the Fleet Maintenance Manager to evaluate month end maintenance metrics to ensure targeted goals and cost controls are in place.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the direction and supervision of fleet maintenance personnel in support of the High Transit fleet and the equipment of supported SBUs including:

  • Coordinating planned and emergent maintenance and repairs
  • Preventive maintenance program compliance
  • Assign mechanics/labor force to specific duties
  • Maintain direct report’s timecards and flex labor with production demands
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIRED:
  • Graduation from high school plus course work in auto and/or equipment mechanics at a trade school and three (3) years’ experience as a lead mechanic or any equivalent combination of education and experience in a role requiring a thorough knowledge of safe working practices, DOT, OSHA and other federal and state regulations
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Google Documents, and SAP applications.
LICENSE, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
  • PA class 7 State Inspection license (to retain PA inspection station)
  • Air brake certification
  • E.P.A. refrigerant purchase and handling certificate
DIMENSIONS (SALES VOLUME, TOTAL EMPLOYEES REPORTING, PAYROLL, ETC.):

The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for 10-15 full-time technicians on multiple shifts as well as several part-time coworkers in the maintenance of 1000+ High Company owned assets.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS (UPWARD AND DOWNWARD):

The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is accountable to and appointed by the Fleet Maintenance Manager in consultation with the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent. The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor will lead, manage and work with Fleet Maintenance personnel in achieving business objectives.
