Job summary

High Transit seeks a Fleet Maintenance Manager to plan, organize, and direct day-to-day fleet maintenance across facilities. You will lead supervisors, coordinate resources, and ensure safe, compliant, and cost-efficient operations that support uptime and performance.

The role requires a decade of maintenance experience, strong leadership, and expertise in SAP and MS Office. You will drive continuous improvement and collaborate with internal stakeholders to maintain high equipment availability.

Qualifications

  • Ten years of fleet maintenance experience with supervisory or management responsibility.
  • Ability to lead maintenance personnel, coordinate priorities, support budget and compliance requirements, and communicate effectively with internal customers, vendors, and leadership.
  • Degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP applications; experience with maintenance management systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily fleet maintenance operations, assign work, monitor schedules and work orders, and ensure completion per direction from the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Coordinate with Shipping, SBUs, and internal customers to minimize downtime and support efficiency.
  • Provide technical oversight for complex diagnostics and repairs; coach supervisors and technicians; elevate significant repair concerns.
  • Oversee maintenance shop inventory, parts, vendor coordination, and purchasing within budget.
  • Maintain knowledge of fleet systems to guide preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Administer preventive maintenance in SAP Maintenance system and keep equipment records updated.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and safety requirements, including inspection readiness.
  • Lead continuous improvement to improve safety, reliability, and service levels.
  • Manage maintenance supervisors, technicians, and support staff across facilities and shifts.
  • Support equipment replacement, transfers, utilization, and maintenance planning with stakeholders.

General Description

The Fleet Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the day-to-day fleet maintenance operations of High Transit LLC. This position ensures the effective execution of preventive and corrective maintenance programs, regulatory compliance, workforce performance, and equipment reliability to support operational objectives. The Fleet Maintenance Manager provides leadership to Fleet Maintenance Supervisor(s), coordinates resources across maintenance functions, and collaborates with internal stakeholders to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective fleet maintenance services.

Experience, Training, And/Or Education Required
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of fleet maintenance experience, including supervisory or management responsibility in a multi-shift maintenance environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead maintenance personnel, coordinate priorities, support budget and compliance requirements, and communicate effectively with internal customers, vendors, and leadership. Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, structural, and operational functions of fleet equipment.
  • Degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP applications required; experience with maintenance management systems preferred.
License, Certificates Or Registrations Required
  • PA class 7 State Inspection license (to retain PA inspection station)
  • Federal Inspection certificate
  • Federal Commercial Drivers license Class A
  • Air brake adjustment certification
  • E.P.A. refrigerant purchase and handling certificate

Annual operating budget, employees reporting, etc. Total operating budget is approximately 2.5 million dollars. Responsible for overall maintenance staff including technicians, Supervisor and Administrative Coordinator

Reporting Relationships

This position is accountable to the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent. The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, Admin Coordinator and 1st shift Maintenance Technicians report directly to this position.

Essential Job Functions
  • Manage daily fleet maintenance operations by assessing priorities, assigning work, monitoring schedules and work orders, and ensuring completion in accordance with direction from the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Coordinate with High Transit Shipping, supported SBU staff, and internal customers to minimize equipment downtime, align maintenance priorities, and support operational efficiency.
  • Provide technical oversight for complex diagnostics and repairs, coach supervisors and technicians as needed, and elevate significant repair concerns or operational risks to the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Oversee maintenance shop inventory, parts availability, vendor coordination, and purchasing activity to support timely repairs while operating within approved budget and authority levels.
  • Maintain sufficient technical knowledge of fleet systems to guide safe, effective preventive maintenance and repair practices for company vehicles and equipment.
  • Administer preventive maintenance requirements and frequencies in the SAP Maintenance system, including periodic reviews of equipment records and updates for new or transferred equipment.
  • Ensure fleet maintenance activities comply with applicable DOT, OSHA, EPA, federal, state, and company safety and maintenance requirements, including inspection readiness and required documentation.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts within fleet maintenance to improve safety, reliability, compliance, efficiency, employee engagement, and service levels.
  • Manage Fleet Maintenance supervisors, technicians, and support personnel across assigned facilities and shifts, ensuring work is staffed, scheduled, and executed effectively.
  • Maintain service-oriented working relationships with High Companies, internal departments, vendors, and other stakeholders to support fleet availability and customer needs.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, selection, onboarding, transfers, and staffing recommendations for the Fleet Maintenance Department in coordination with the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent and Human Resources.
  • Manage coworker performance of direct reports through coaching, feedback, performance evaluations, training plans, and corrective action recommendations consistent with company policy.
  • Support and reinforce a safe working environment by ensuring safety meetings, training, inspections, incident follow-up, and corrective actions are completed across all shifts.
  • Assist the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent with development, monitoring, and control of the fleet maintenance operating budget, including review of expenses, cost trends, and resource needs.
  • Analyze maintenance records, equipment performance, downtime, and repair costs to recommend repair, replacement, disposal, or capital planning actions to the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Oversee paint bay operations to ensure work quality, schedule performance, housekeeping, and compliance with applicable environmental and safety requirements.
  • Oversee trailer bay operations, including new builds, rebuilds, special builds, repair priorities, quality standards, and issue resolution.
  • Monitor industry changes, maintenance practices, regulations, and emerging technology to provide recommendations for equipment specifications, tools, systems, and process improvements.
  • Support High Companies with equipment specification input, maintenance feasibility considerations, and fleet-related technical guidance as requested.
  • Coordinate with High Industries and other stakeholders on vehicle replacement, transfers, utilization, and maintenance planning in alignment with superintendent direction.
  • Coordinate equipment damage, insurance, repair documentation, and related follow-up for High Companies as needed, escalating significant matters to the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent.
Secondary Job Functions
  • Address any request made by the Director Shipping and Fleet Maintenance.
  • Respond professionally to a variety of unique fleet maintenance requests from High Steel departments, other High Companies, maintaining composure and sound judgment while coordinating appropriate follow-up and escalating significant matters to the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent as needed.
  • Conduct informational meetings with other company department members.
  • Attend company meetings and required seminars.
