Job summary

The City of Oceanside is seeking a Maintenance Assistant in the Fleet Division of Public Works. The ideal candidate will have basic mechanic knowledge and the ability to work in a shop environment, keeping the shop clean and safe while assisting with parts pickups, tire changes, and occasional vehicle support.

This is an hourly, extra-help position with no leave or medical benefits and will not exceed 999 hours per fiscal year.

Qualifications

• Basic mechanic knowledge.
• Experience with manual labor and shop tasks.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Clean and organize the shop; sweep, mop, empty trash, keep area safe.
• Assist with road calls, jump starts, parts runs, tire changes.
• Support equipment technicians and operate forklift when needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
