Job Description

Job Summary:

Perform skilled mechanical repair and preventive maintenance work on District vehicle fleet and equipment, including welding and fabrication. Demonstrate an understanding of CityWorks, Fuel Master, RTA, and diagnostic software. Provide assistance with building maintenance. Assist in training related to job duties and safety procedures for the Fleet Maintenance I position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical issues on District light and heavy-duty trucks and construction equipment.
2. Assist with building maintenance activities including HVAC, car wash, and other mechanical and electrical equipment. Perform monthly inspections on the District underground storage tank (fuel).
3. Assist the Division Manager in locating vehicle parts, pricing, and coordinating with outside vendors.
4. Track vehicle maintenance/repairs and inventory using CityWorks and RTA.
5. Support other divisions within the District with training on fleet maintenance and projects, and assist with fabrication of materials to support District needs.
6. Assist in planning for new District vehicles, including lease vehicles and the sale of old vehicles via Public Surplus.
7. Respond to emergencies as needed, including after hours.
8. Perform various other duties as assigned.

General Qualification Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The employee must work in a safety-sensitive manner and carry out duties accordingly.

Prior Work Experience: At least two years of related experience.

Education and Training: High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional technical training in vehicle maintenance (including vactors), ASE certifications (A1-A8), and metal fabrication/welding is preferred.

Licenses, Certifications, etc.:

1. Valid Utah driver's license Class B with tanker and air brakes endorsement required or ability to obtain within 90 days. Hazardous-material endorsement required or must be obtained within 90 days.
2. UST AB Operator certification required or ability to obtain within 90 days.

Note: The District provides training to help employees meet licensing requirements.

Background Knowledge:

1. Knowledge of vehicle repairs and maintenance.
2. Knowledge of vehicle electrical wiring.
3. Ability to operate small equipment and hand tools.
4. Basic computer skills.
5. Ability to operate various welders and oxygen/acetylene torches.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands include:

1. Continuous dexterity.
2. Regularly talking and hearing.
3. Frequent sitting and repetitive hand/wrist movements.
4. Occasional reaching, standing, walking, driving, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
5. Lifting requirements:

i. 1 to 25 pounds regularly
ii. 26 to 50 pounds frequently
iii. 51 to 100 pounds occasionally
iv. 101 to 150 pounds rarely

Specific vision abilities include clarity at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less, distance and space judgment, color distinction, and peripheral vision. Duties may be performed outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
