Job summary

UNFI is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Mechanic in Santa Fe Springs, CA to perform preventive maintenance on trailers, tractors, and yard tractors, diagnosing and repairing medium to heavy-duty refrigerated trucks and trailers.

The role covers brake and ABS diagnostics, electrical work, liftgate repairs, drivelines, suspensions, and proper repair-order entries in the RTA system. Shift: 3p-11:30p; mentoring junior mechanics and ensuring quality work are included.

Qualifications

• 2 years of mechanical experience or technical training with 1 year of experience
• Must have all necessary hand tools
• Driving experience: preferred Class A
• Certifications: tire and wheel, brakes, HVAC, and FHWA DOT inspections preferred
• Ability to repair brakes, rear doors, air systems, and electrical systems with minimal supervision
• Strong teamwork and independent work skills
• Valid driver’s license and must be 21 years of age or older

Position Purpose

• Diagnose and repair air and hydraulic brake systems, including ABS


• Perform electrical diagnostics and repairs


• Repair liftgate systems and fabricate as needed


• Diagnose drivelines, steering, and suspensions

• Perform tire and wheel end maintenance

Job Requirements

• Experience: Preferred 2 years of mechanical experience or technical training with 1 year of experience


• Tools: Must have all necessary hand tools


• Driving Experience: Preferred experience in driving/moving Class A equipment


• Certifications: Tire and wheel, brakes, HVAC, and FHWA DOT Inspections preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Ability to repair brakes, rear doors, air systems, and electrical systems with minimal supervision


• Strong teamwork and independent work skills


• Valid driver’s license and must be 21 years of age or older

Physical Environment/Demands

• Regularly required to stand, sit, and use hands for various tasks


• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform repetitive movements


• Exposure to temperatures ranging from 20 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit


• Manual dexterity and coordination required for working at various heights and in confined spaces
