Job description

Incumbent manages all activities of the maintenance department and its employees. Duties include supervision of bus repairs and preventative maintenance, cleanliness of the facility, ordering of supplies and supplying reliable vehicles for daily operations. This is a safety sensitive position. Incumbent in this position performs under the supervision of the General Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Essential Duties
  • Supervision of all employees involved in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and other equipment, ensuring maximum utilization of personnel consistent with quality work.
  • Exercise prudent judgement in all decisions and actions.
  • Direct the execution of equipment maintenance schedules consistent with manufacturers’ recommendations and prudent safety requirements.
  • Act as liaison with manufacturers’ representatives concerning maintenance and repair of buses.
  • Plan, direct and coordinate repair and maintenance of buses, vehicles and equipment used in transit operations, maintains parts inventory necessary to accomplish vehicle repairs, inspects facilities including shop, grounds and buildings for maintenance and or repair needs.
  • Review damage to equipment and vehicles and participate in the preparation of insurance claims and repair estimates.
  • Schedule and supervise mechanics.
  • In charge of daily assignment of work for mechanics and service personnel.
  • Supervise mechanics’ work.
  • Perform duties of a mechanic as required.
  • Review the quality of work and mechanics’ time utilization.
  • Recommend purchase of tools and supplies.
  • Prepare work orders and maintain records of labor and usage of parts, supplies, fuel and tires.
  • Protect and secure parts, supplies, and maintenance facility.
  • Ensure adherence to safe work practices.
  • Participate in company safety training program.
  • Take an active role in monitoring the safe condition of the facility and vehicles and implement immediate corrective action when safety hazards are discovered.
  • Maintain computerized vehicle maintenance software.
  • Responsible for ordering of parts, receipt of parts and materials, fuel, tire and parts inventory control, processing of work orders.
