Job summary

U.S. Xpress is seeking a Fleet Leader for the Ellenwood terminal. The role oversees Driver Leaders and driver teams to ensure peak performance and a seamless driver and customer experience.

You will manage schedules, monitor KPI performance, and coach teams to drive safe, efficient operations. Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and 3+ years in Operations (customer service, fleet management, or load planning).

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
3+ years in Operations including Customer Service, Fleet Management, or Load Planning.
Knowledge of DOT hours of service and how they apply to a Driver.
XPM / Qtops (AS-400) usage knowledge.

Responsibilities

Oversee the activities of Driver Leaders and their teams to ensure top performance and smooth driver and customer experience.
Manage driver work schedules including holidays and sick days for all employees.
Monitor employee and Driver performance through KPI and soft-skill metrics.
Coach, mentor and document performance improvements.
Manage Driver performance while promoting safe operations.
Monitor freight assigned to Drivers to ensure high levels of service.
Lead with strong work ethic and integrity; cover other needs as required.
Monitor KPI’s for P&L, fuel management, and utilities.

What You’ll Do:

The Fleet Leader will oversee the activities of Driver Leaders and their respective teams of drivers to ensure the utmost in performance, and smooth driver and customer experience.

Manage a community of Driver Leaders whose duties include management of Drivers and tractors to ensure success is achieved for customers and Drivers
Manage work schedules including coverage for holidays, sick days, etc. for all employees
Monitor employee and Driver performance through KPI and soft-skill management
Enhance employee performance through coaching, mentoring and documentation
Managing Driver’s performance while promoting safe operations
Monitor freight assigned to Drivers in order to ensure the highest level of service to our customers
Lead team with strong work ethic & integrity
Fill-in for other business needs, as warranted
Monitor and Manage KPI’ for P&L Fuel Management, and Utility

What We’re Looking For:

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required

Experience

3+ years in Operations including Customer Service, Fleet Management, or Load Planning required
Knowledge of DOT hours of service and how they apply to a Driver
XPM / Qtops (AS-400)

Knowledge:

Customer & Personal Service/Building Relationships - knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes meeting quality standards for services
Public Safety & Security knowledge helpful – familiarity with relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions
Administration & Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
Mathematics- knowledge of mathematics to solve problems
Computers and Electronics - knowledge of electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications

250-500 drivers, up to 20 office employees
