Job summary

The City of Waco seeks a skilled mechanic with experience maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles, heavy equipment, and specialized machinery.

Under basic supervision, performs maintenance, repairs, adjustments, and preventive maintenance on Fleet Services (FS) vehicles, specialty vehicles and equipment and heavy equipment, in accordance with all safety regulations and City procedures.

Qualifications

• Required: valid Texas driver’s license and HS diploma or GED.
• Two years of experience in maintenance/repair of vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Associate degree or higher may substitute for experience.
• Texas Class B CDL required within 180 days.

Responsibilities

• Performs maintenance, repairs, adjustments, and preventive maintenance on a diverse fleet of light to heavy vehicles and equipment.
• Inspects and diagnoses mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems and prioritizes repairs.
• Performs preventive maintenance to maximize life and reduce downtime.
• Maintains records, opens/closes work orders, and documents parts and repairs.
• Operates engines and components, including gasoline, diesel, and hybrid systems.
