Zūm Services, Inc. is seeking a Fleet Diesel Systems Technician to diagnose and repair diesel fleet equipment, ensuring safe, reliable student transportation. You will work on braking, electrical, cooling, and engine systems, perform road calls, and document work precisely for compliance.

You will also coordinate inspections, test-drive after service, and escalate complex repairs when needed, contributing to a compliant, safe maintenance program nationwide.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of medium/heavy truck fleet mechanic experience.
  • Strong diagnostics with proven Electrical and A/C capabilities.
  • Familiarity with both diesel and gasoline systems.
  • Valid state CDL license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs within your qualification level across major systems: steering, electrical, cooling, lubrication, braking, drivetrains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions, and fuel/temperature/gas regulating components; adjust, test, and rebuild engines as needed.
  • Test-drive vehicles to confirm resolutions and quality of repair.
  • Coordinate and obtain required inspections and approvals for major repairs prior to releasing vehicles from maintenance.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and compliant work area.
  • Identify and report additional maintenance or repairs, including those that must be completed by higher-qualification technicians.
  • Accurately record time, parts used, and work performed on the proper documentation.
  • Respond to road calls and complete on-the-road repairs when assigned.

A bus arrives with brake fade complaints—you verify, diagnose, and service the braking and suspension systems in accordance with federal, state/provincial, and local standards. After a successful test drive, you document parts and labor, then arrange the required inspection and approval before release. Midday, you head out on a road call to resolve an electrical fault affecting temperature and instrumentation. Back in the shop, you flag a drivetrain repair that must be escalated to a higher-qualification technician and brief the Lead Technician on a safety condition you observed.
