Job summary

Ketchikan Gateway Borough Transit is seeking an entry-level Fleet Detailer to perform routine cleaning and light detailing of transit vehicles in Ketchikan. This role supports a clean, safe, and presentable fleet for public use.

Responsibilities include operating cleaning equipment, cleaning interiors, sanitizing high-touch areas, and maintaining inventory records. On-the-job training is provided; Alaska residency not required for the role.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Operates bus wash system, vacuums, and other janitorial equipment using proper procedures to avoid equipment or vehicle damage.
• Cleans interior surfaces of buses including windows, seats, handrails, and floors; sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, trash removal.
• Sanitizes high-touch areas and addresses graffiti, biohazards, and other special cleaning needs per health and safety protocols.
• Maintains an orderly and safe work environment; adheres to OSHA guidelines and Borough safety practices.
• Tracks janitorial supply usage and supports restocking through inventory systems.
• Uses computer software or mobile devices to record work activities, cleaning checklists, and condition reports.
• Participates in required training sessions related to cleaning protocols, safety, or operational tools.
• May assist in orienting or training peers on cleaning procedures and safety practices.
• Reports observed vehicle damage, maintenance issues, or irregularities to a supervisor.
• Performs related tasks to support general transit facility cleanliness and appearance.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Operates bus wash system, vacuums, and other janitorial equipment using proper procedures to avoid equipment or vehicle damage.
• Cleans interior surfaces of buses including windows, seats, handrails, and floors; tasks include sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, and trash removal.
• Sanitizes high-touch areas and addresses graffiti, biohazards, and other special cleaning needs in accordance with health and safety protocols.
• Maintains an orderly and safe work environment; adheres to OSHA guidelines and Borough safety practices.
• Tracks janitorial supply usage and supports restocking efforts through digital or manual inventory systems.
• Uses computer software or mobile devices to record work activities, cleaning checklists, and condition reports.

This position requires the ability to:

• Hear and see clearly (including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment).
• Use hands to operate cleaning tools and controls; reach overhead or under seats.
• Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb ladders or stools, and lift/carry supplies weighing up to 50 lbs and will be trained in proper lifting technique.
• Work in varying weather conditions and environments including garages and bus lots.

Requirements

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

A valid State of Alaska driver’s license is preferred but not required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience in custodial work, vehicle detailing, or commercial cleaning is helpful but not required.

On-the-job training will be provided.

Any combination of related education and/or related experience will be considered if the candidate possesses the demonstrated ability.
