For more information, please visit ymcawnc.org.ABOUT THE ROLEUnder the direction of the Property Director and consistent with the mission and policies of the YMCA of Western North Carolina, as the Fleet Manager, you are responsible for the daily maintenance of the fleet and safe transportation of all program participants.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSFull-Time Bus Driver / Fleet SupportOperates YMCA Youth Services buses for program transportation, including after-school routes, field trips, camp transportation, and other approved program needs.Position is full-time, 40 hours per week, with approximately 25 hours per week assigned directly to Youth Services transportation needs.Remaining scheduled hours will support the Occupancy Fleet Department with bus movement, test drives, inspections, and basic fleet-related tasks.Transports buses to and from annual North Carolina state inspections, repair vendors, wash services, and other approved service locations as assigned.Assists with maintaining a bus inspection and service log, including annual inspection dates, upcoming due dates, and completed inspection documentation.Performs routine test drives of buses as directed by the Fleet Department to help identify drivability concerns, warning lights, brake issues, steering concerns, unusual noises, or other operational problems.Completes required pre-trip and post-trip inspections and reports concerns promptly through the proper work order or reporting process.Communicates vehicle concerns, inspection results, and operational issues to the Fleet Department and Youth Services leadership in a timely manner.Supports safe vehicle rotation by helping move buses between sites, programs, vendors, and inspection locations as needed.Maintains cleanliness and basic readiness of assigned vehicles, including fueling expectations, trash removal, and reporting damage or safety concerns.Follows all YMCA driver policies, state transportation requirements, safety expectations, and child transportation procedures.Maintains required driver qualifications, including appropriate license, driving record standards, background checks, training, and any applicable drug/alcohol testing requirements.Serves as a reliable transportation support position shared between Youth Services operations and Association Fleet needs.All other duties as assignedABOUT YOUQualificationsMust be at least 21 years of age or older.Valid CDL required, with appropriate passenger endorsement.Must meet all YMCA driver eligibility requirements, including acceptable MVR and background check.Must be able to pass NC childcare background check requirements.Must be able to pass any required drug and alcohol screening requirements.Prior experience operating buses or similar large passenger vehicles preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage positive relationships with children, staff and vendors.Knowledge of basic bus mechanics and repair needs.Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.Organizational skills related to handling documents and associated paperwork.Comfort with logs, inspection dates, work requests, and simple fleet documentation.Must be able to complete and document pre-trip and post-trip inspections.Must be dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable transporting children and youth.Must be able to communicate vehicle concerns clearly to Youth Services leadership and the Fleet Department.PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF THE JOBThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
